Flood warning issued for Greene, Fayette, southern Washington counties

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for southern Washington County and Greene and Fayette counties until 5 p.m. today. The rest of Southwestern Pennsylvania is under a flash flood watch until evening. Heavy rainfall moved across the area this morning, and more is expected throughout the day. The NWS said between three-quarters and one inch of rain has already fallen and one to two more inches is expected. High winds are also expected throughout the day.

The NWS also issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southeastern Washington County, Greene County and south central Westmoreland County until 11 a.m. after severe thunderstorms were located from 7 miles north of Waynesburg to near Pine Grove. NWS says the storms could have gusts of 60 mph with a brief tornado possible and warns of damage to trees and power lines resulting in outages.
