Man sentenced in fatal Morgantown hit-and-run
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) – A man who pleaded guilty in the hit-and-run death of a pedestrian in Morgantown has been ordered to a correctional center for young adults.
Media outlets report a Monongalia County Circuit judge suspended a four-to-20-year sentence for Alexander Hambrick on Tuesday. The judge instead ordered the 20-year-old Winfield resident to initially report to a regional jail before being sent to the Anthony Center in White Sulphur Springs.
Hambrick pleaded guilty in December to driving under the influence with death and leaving the scene of an accident with death.
Authorities say Hambrick was drunk in January 2016 when he drove his pickup truck on a sidewalk. Twenty-year-old Carli Elizabeth Sears of Charleston was killed.
Sears was a student at the University of Mississippi and was in Morgantown visiting friends.
