Man arrested on gun, paraphernalia charges
A Washington man was arrested by state police on gun and paraphernalia charges after serving a search warrant at his home early Friday.
Jonathan Lee Washington, 29, of 310 Hillside Ave., was taken into custody after state police found a Beretta semi-wautomatic pistol near where he had been seated when they entered the house.
Washington reportedly told troopers he had the gun for protection since he had been robbed in the past. He later told troopers he purchased the gun from a man for $200. Washington has a felony drug conviction and not eligible to possess a firearm.
Troopers continued to search the house, finding hundreds of unused stamp bags used to package heroin and boxes reportedly used to package bulk supplies of heroin. Also found was a large quantity of cash.
He was arraigned before District Judge Ethan Ward on charges of person not to possess a firearm and possession of paraphernalia. He was placed in Washington County jail on $100,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 16 before District Judge Robert Redlinger.
