Overnight closures in the outbound Fort Pitt Tunnel in Pittsburgh will begin Monday night.

Closures will occur weeknights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. as crews from Mosites Construction conduct fire suppression standpipe system installation. All outbound traffic will be detoured, and a route will be posted.

The overnight closures will occur weeknights through March 24. Closures will not occur until two hours after the end of any Penguins home game.

The overall $14.17 million project includes the removal of the tunnel ceiling, relocation of CCTV cameras and temperature monitors, concrete repair work to the tunnel walls and air duct arch, waterline and standpipe improvements, electrical updates, drainage improvements, reroofing of a portion of the north portal building, milling and resurfacing of the roadway, pavement marking and other miscellaneous construction.

To help keep motorists informed as work progresses, PennDOT has created an email distribution list for Parkway West (Interstate 376) traffic advisories and construction updates. Enroll by sending email addresses to stcowan@pa.gov. Please write “Subscribe – Parkway West” in the subject line.
