WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg man was convicted by a Greene County Court jury Wednesday of receiving stolen property in connection with the theft of a pickup truck from the parking lot of the WHS-Greene hospital in February 2016.

John W. Teagarden, 53, of 614 Craynes Run Road, was found guilty of the charge in a trial before Greene County Court Judge Lou Dayich.

Dayich, the finder of fact in regard to summary offenses, also found Teagarden guilty of disorderly conduct and criminal attempt to commit criminal mischief. Dayich acquitted him of charges of resisting arrest, criminal mischief and public drunkenness.

Teagarden was arrested in connection with the theft of a pickup truck from the hospital parking lot Feb. 24.

State police said they later received a call reporting a one-vehicle crash involving a vehicle fitting the description of the stolen vehicle on Wilman Hill Road in Washington Township.

The caller told police he saw a man walking away from the crash with a brown dog. Police questioned Teagarden at his home, and he said he had been in the area of the crash and has a brown dog. His story, police said, differed from those of people he claimed to be with at the time.

Teagarden also was identified by the person who initially called in the crash and saw Teagarden walking away from the scene.

Teagarden remains free on bail. He will be sentenced following the preparation of a pre-sentence report.
