A West Bethlehem Township man is accused in the fatal shooting of a dog that had strayed onto his property and harassed a rabbit in a secured cage.

State police, who did not identify the 46-year-old suspect from Marianna, said the incident occurred around 8 a.m. Saturday at the property on Main Street.

Police reported the dog escaped its owner, a 52-year-old Marianna woman they did not identify, in the Central Avenue area.

They said the suspect twice tried to chase the dog away from the rabbit’s cage before getting a 10-gauge shotgun from his residence, firing two rounds and fatally wounding the dog.

Police said they are still investigating.
