A state corrections officer waived his right to a preliminary hearing before a district judge Monday on charges stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident at his home in California.

Chad G. Reams, 40, of Fourth Street, faces charges of simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment. Borough police filed the charges the day after they were called to Reams’ home at 1:21 a.m. March 12 and found Nicole Reams, his wife, “with an injury to her arm as well as very visibly shaking and trying to catch her breath,” according to a police affidavit supporting the charges.

SCI-Greene spokeswoman Rhonda House confirmed Reams is employed at the prison. Further information about his status there was not immediately available.

Reams’ attorney, Jason Adams, could not be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon.

Prosecutors withdrew two felony counts of aggravated assault Monday, when a preliminary hearing was scheduled to take place before District Judge Joshua Kanalis.

Police said two friends of the couple also were at the house and told officers Nicole Reams summoned them when Chad Reams became violent.

All three reportedly told police Reams threw a wooden dining room chair at his wife, hitting her in the arm and causing one of the friends to duck out of the way.

California police Officer Alyssa Haines wrote Chad Reams also allegedly went outside to his truck, “where he recovered a handgun and said he did not trust himself with it and handed the gun” to another friend.

Reams is free on $25,000 unsecured bond set by Kanalis.
