West Alexander man pleads guilty to indecent assault
A West Alexander man pleaded guilty Friday to indecent assault for inappropriately touching a 6-year-old girl almost 30 years ago at a Buffalo Township home when he was 15 years old.
Brian Christopher Hall, 45, had been scheduled for a nonjury trial before opting to plead guilty to the charge of indecent assault without consent before Judge Gary Gilman. A second count was nolle prossed.
Hall was arrested in October 2014. The victim, who was then 33 years old, contacted Cpl. Sarah Teagarden in 2012 after reading about his arrest that year for sending inappropriate text messages to a 14-year-old girl. Hall, who was charged with corruption of minors, had his record expunged after successfully completing the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program and a counseling program.
The victim told Teagarden she had gone to his parents home in September 1987 so his parents could baby-sit her. She told Teagarden she was sleeping on the floor in his room. When she awoke, Hall was touching her inappropriately and had reached under her nightgown. When she told her mother what happened, Hall was reportedly made to apologize. He reportedly admitted to Teagarden during an interview he touched the girl, but said he was at an age where boys experiment.
Hall was placed on probation for two years, must attend sex offender counseling and register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law for 15 years.
The prosecution had to proceed under the law that was in existence in 1987, which was a second degree misdemeanor, said assistant District Attorney Kristin Clingerman, who prosecuted the case.
“Had the activity happened today, we could have charged him with felony indecent assault,” Clingerman said.
The victim was present in the courtroom and gave an impact statement.
