At least five injured in Cecil accident
Five people, including three children, were injured in a fiery, two-vehicle collision just after 8 p.m. Sunday on Route 980 at Ohare and Chartiers Run roads in Cecil Township.
A Jeep ended up on its side and caught fire as did the second vehicle, said Muse fire Chief Paul Smith. Passersby got the victims out of the vehicles, the chief added.
The driver of the Jeep was taken to West Penn Hospital’s burn unit while the driver of the second vehicle was taken to UPMC-Mercy hospital, Pittsburgh. The three children in the Jeep were taken to UPMC-Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Southbridge ambulances transported all five to the hospitals.
One man who helped get the victims out of the vehicles also suffered burns and was treated by Canonsburg Ambulance personnel.
The crash is being investigated by township police.
A guide wire was sheared off and a fire hydrant also was hit in the crash. Smith said utility companies are making the necessary repairs.
The three roads were closed, and traffic was rerouted. Assisting at the scene were Canonsburg and Chartiers Township police.
