A Canonsburg man was placed in jail following a Thursday morning raid of a Canonsburg home.

Lamont William Johnson, 24, was placed in Washington County jail on $250,000 bond on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, carrying an unlicensed firearm, possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of possession with intent to deliver.

According to Canonsburg police Chief Alex Coghill, a search warrant was obtained after the department received reports of drug and gun trafficking at 420 Euclid Ave.

Just after 6 a.m., borough police, state troopers and federal Drug Enforcement Agency and Washington County Regional SWAT team officers executed the warrant, using stun grenades to secure the house.

“Everyone is safe,” said Coghill shortly after the incident. “The loud noises people reported hearing were flash-bang percussions used to disorient people. There were no injuries.”

According to the complaint, two large mason jars of marijuana, a glass pipe and a black .380-caliber gun with the serial number obliterated were found inside the home. Johnson allegedly told police he has been selling a pound of marijuana every week for about three years.

Police recovered a second gun, a Taurus handgun with no record of ownership found, in a vehicle parked behind the home after Johnson allegedly told them it was there. Johnson was arraigned before District Judge David Mark. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 12.

Coghill said the serving of the search warrant was timed to avoid school bus runs.
