Sam’s Club at Trinity Point in South Strabane Township was one of three to have bomb threats called into the stores Sunday.

Township police Sgt. Brad McClay said he was talking with store managers, who told him they were notified a similar threat was made at a store in Exton, Chester County. A similar call was reportedly made to a store in Tulsa, Okla.

McClay said the call came in at 1:49 p.m. during a peak shopping time when the store was filled with customers. The store had customers as well as employees evacuate the building.

A store employee was still on the telephone with the caller making the threat, demanding 30, $500 gift cards that were to be loaded and placed online. McClay said the caller appeared to have a Hispanic accent. He said people who seemed to be speaking in Spanish could be heard in the background.

Washington County sheriff’s Deputy Kristie Salzman and her K-9, Obie, responded and searched the store. The store remained closed for about two hours until management determined it was safe for employees and customers to return to the building.
