Armed suspect shot by police in Waynesburg still in hospital
The armed suspect who was shot in the foot by a Waynesburg police officer early Wednesday after he allegedly pointed a gun at the officer remains hospitalized at Ruby Memorial in Morgantown, W.Va., state police said.
State police are waiting for Julius Maurice Hurt to recover from his injury so he can be extradited back to Greene County to face charges. A hospital operator said she had no information to provide on Hurt.
State police said Hurt was armed and acting “unruly” while walking behind Greene County Courthouse shortly after 1 a.m. Waynesburg police Officer Charles Sochor was dispatched and chased Hurt north on Morris Street toward High Street before a confrontation ensued and state police said Hurt pointed a weapon at the officer while running. Police said Sochor fired one time, striking Hurt in the foot and ankle area.
Hurt, 31, of 329 E. Franklin St., Waynesburg, was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, receiving stolen property, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and two counts each of carrying a firearm without a license and illegal possession of a firearm.
