A CONSOL Energy employee was flown by medical helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., Wednesday morning with chest injuries after being struck by a vehicle at the company’s Bailey Mine complex, a Washington County 911 supervisor confirmed.

The incident occurred about 9 a.m. on the surface of the mining complex, near the portal, in East Finley Township.

The employee, whose name was not given, “was alert, conscious and oriented at the time he was airlifted from the site as a precautionary measure,” a CONSOL spokesman said.
