The fire caused extensive damage to both the 950 and 952 sides of the residence, as well as damage to a nearby home.

An early morning fire Friday gutted one side and extensively damaged the other side of a Heslep Avenue duplex in Donora. Residents escaped the flames, which are thought to have started in the kitchen area of the 950 side of the home.

A woman was rescued early Friday after fire broke out in her home on Heslep Avenue in Donora.

According to Donora Fire Company, the blaze was reported shortly after 12:30 a.m. Police were first to arrive at the scene, at Heslep and 10th Street, and were able to get the woman out of the home. The flames spread to an adjoining house before the fire could be contained. Firefighters were on the scene until 6 a.m. No one was injured.

Donora firefighters were assisted by crews from Carroll, Collinsburg, Rostraver, New Eagle, Monessen and Bentleyville.
