MUSE – Cardinal Donald Wuerl, archbishop of Washington, D.C., visited Muse Sunday to honor a friend who celebrated 60 years in the priesthood.

Wuerl also delivered a blessing from Pope Francis to the Rev. George T. DeVille, administrator of Holy Rosary Parish, saying the priest “served with perfection.”

DeVille is the kind of priest who would “go to places that other people would just shudder,” the Very Rev. Frederick Cain said during a Mass celebrating DeVille’s anniversary.

In his career, DeVille served as chaplain at the Mayview and Woodville state hospitals in South Fayette Township and Collier Township, respectively.

“He never separated himself from … the needs around him,” said Cain, an episcopal vicar with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh.

“If a child needed a tutor, he would go and spend his time teaching (him) the basic skills,” Cain said.

DeVille was appointed pastor of Holy Rosary in 2000 and became eligible to retire the following year. However, he decided to keep serving the parish.
