Woman charged in Route 21 crash
A 26-year-old Carmichaels woman is facing aggravated assault by vehicle charges for an October crash in which she and two teenagers were hospitalized with serious injuries.
Police said lab results showed Rebecca Ann Robinson, of 664 Browns Ferry Road, had several different narcotics, including oxycodone, in her system when she crashed into another vehicle on Route 21 in Cumberland Township Oct. 13.
Police said the crash happened around 9:30 p.m. near the former Halliburton complex. Police said Robinson was traveling west when she crossed the center line and crashed head-on into an eastbound pickup truck, driven by Klayton Jenkins, 17, of Adah.
Police said when they arrived on the scene, Jenkins’ vehicle struck a building before landing on its side, pinning him between his truck and the ground.
“The male was responsive and stated that his legs hurt,” police said in the criminal complaint. “The male had apparent injuries to his head and face.”
Both Jenkins and Robinson had to be extricated from their vehicles and flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., for severe injuries.
Police said Jenkins suffered a traumatic brain injury, two fractured bones in his shin, two fractures in his ankle, a fractured foot and multiple cuts that required stitches. Police did not specify what Robinson’s injuries were.
A passenger in Jenkins’ truck, Allison Wilson, 16, of McClellandtown, had also been taken to Ruby by ambulance for treatment following the crash, which closed the road for about five hours while emergency crews from Jefferson and Cumberland townships removed the wreckage.
Police said they found a bottle of narcotic pills in Robinson’s purse and other drug paraphernalia in her vehicle. Police said lab results showed she had nearly double the legal limit of controlled substances in her system to be able to drive.
Robinson was charged Monday with two counts each of aggravated assault by vehicle, recklessly endangering another person and possession of a controlled substance. She was also charged with three counts of driving under the influence, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and five summary offenses.
Police have issued a warrant for her arrest.
