Police Beat May 27
Theft: Lisa Eileen Basinger, 51, of 602 Smithfield-Masontown Road, Smithfield, was charged by state police with theft and identity theft after she allegedly opened a credit card last year under her ex-husband’s name and information. Basinger told police that after she and her ex-husband, Samuel Basinger, separated, the alimony support was cut by more than $180, making it difficult to pay her bills, the criminal complaint said. Police said that on Oct. 9, Basinger used her ex-husband’s social security number along with her own email and physical addresses to open a new credit line. Police said she spent just under $2,000 with that account.
Drug charges: Billy Wayne Stiles, 29, of 27 Cumberland Village, Carmichaels, was charged by Waynesburg police with two counts of possession with intent to deliver, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, four counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence and driving under suspension following a traffic stop early Friday morning on North East Street in Waynesburg. Police said Greene County sheriff’s deputies and Greene County Regional police assisted with the traffic stop when Stiles jumped from the car as if he was going to run from police, the criminal complaint said. Police tackled Stiles to the ground and found him to be in possession of 20 grams of suspected crack cocaine, eight grams of suspected marijuana, a crack pipe, a digital, a marijuana grinder and small bags. Police said there was a woman and juvenile in the car with Stiles at the time, but the woman told police that she knew nothing about the drugs in the vehicle. Police said Stiles told them all of the drugs and paraphernalia belonged to him and that he had smoked crack cocaine that night.
