Local results from Tuesday’s general election
Tuesday’s general election featured a number of contests for local offices, including mayor, supervisor, council and school board. Here are some of the results:
Washington County
Burgettstown
Republican Maryann Reedy, whose husband is council President James Reedy II, narrowly defeated Democratic incumbent Anna Marie Quader for a four-year term as mayor.
California
Republican Frank Stetar defeated Democrat Rosemary Capana for a four-year term as mayor.
Cecil
Incumbent supervisor Elizabeth Cowden lost her seat on the board as incumbent Tom Casciola, a Democrat, and Republican Ronald Fleeher were elected to six-year terms.
Charleroi
Democratic Councilman Edward Bryner defeated former mayor Nancy Ellis to win a four-year term as mayor.
Donegal
Republicans Edward Shingle Jr. and Michael J. Smith overwhelmed two Democratic opponents to win six-year terms on the expanding board of supervisors, while Democrats Kathleen Wright-Croft and Tammi M. Iams also rolled over two Republicans to win four-year terms.
Donora
Cynthia Brice and P. Jane Ackerman, who ran on both party tickets, were elected to four-year terms on council along with Democrat Michael McDowell and Republican Edward Parquette. Yancey Taylor was not elected.
Monongahela
Democrat William Polona and Republican Claudia Williams defeated Tom Caudill to win four-year terms on council.
North Franklin
Former supervisor Bob Sabot, a Republican, defeated incumbent Democrat Martha Ward for a six-year term on the board of supervisors.
North Strabane
Neil Kelly, who was running on both party tickets, and Republican Harold Close defeated incumbent Brian Spicer to win six-year terms of the board of supervisors.
Robinson
Democrat David Foley defeated incumbent Regis Curtis Jr. to win a spot on the board of supervisors.
South Strabane
Former Washington County commissioner Bracken Burns, a Democrat, and Republican Richard Luketich defeated two other candidates to win six-year terms on the board of supervisors.
Greene County
Center Township
Democrat Harry D. Gillispie defeated Republican Seann P. McCollum for an open Center Township supervisor’s seat.
Freeport Township
Democrat Ken E. Kirby ran unopposed for Freeport Township supervisor and received 23 votes, but write-in candidates received a total of 37 votes. Those names will be counted early next week.
Morris Township
Republican Bob Keller defeated Democrat Daniel L. Karvan for Morris Township supervisor.
Whiteley Township
Roger Hayes, a Republican, won the seat for Whiteley Township supervisor against Gretchen Henderson.
Carmichaels Area School Board
In the race for four seats, Democrats Richard L. Krause, Ed McIntire, Jason J. Voithofer and Jason M. Matyus won, defeating the lone Republican, Al Butchie Buchtan.
