Grants awarded

to county projects

More than $900,000 in state grants was awarded last week for two projects in Washington County, according to state Sen. Camera Bartolotta, R-Carroll Township.

The first of the two Commonwealth Financing Authority grants, $852,019, was designated to add a right turning lane to the southbound lanes of Morganza Road where it intersects with McMurray Road in Cecil Township, according to a news release from Bartolotta’s office. The project will include a right turning lane to the westbound lanes and a left turning lane to the eastbound lanes of McMurray Road at the same intersection.

The money will also provide for a new traffic signal at the entrance and exit of the proposed Cool Valley development area, the news release said.

The second grant, $50,000, was awarded to Donora Borough for a feasibility study for a 53-mile trail, to include 28 miles of trail from Marianna to Monongahela to Donora, according to Bartolotta’s office. The project also would have a 25-mile bike lane along state Route 88 from Donora to Greene River Trail near Frederickstown.

Gas service restored to 400 customers

About 400 Columbia Gas customers in Rostraver Township lost natural gas service Wednesday night, the company announced.

The company said it restored service to all customers by 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

The affected customers were connected to a distribution system near Route 51 and Interstate 70.

Workers went door-to-door to notify customers of the disruption, the company said.
