Firefighters from several departments responded Sunday to a fire at the Judson Wiley & Sons concrete plant in Washington.

Washington firefighters were called Sunday morning to a fire at Judson Wiley & Sons plant at 404 S. Main St., for a fire in a storage building.

Fire Chief Linn Brookman said the building, which is constructed mostly of concrete, is used to store sand and gravel used as part of the mixing process. He said a heater was used in the building to keep the materials warm so they could be transported on a conveyor to be processed into concrete.

“It looks like it had been smoldering for some time before the fire was spotted,” Brookman said.

North Strabane Township rapid intervention team also responded to the fire. Firefighters were on the scene for about two hours.
