Smith Township police arrested a sister and brother on charges including aggravated assault for an alleged attack on a Langeloth man Tuesday night.

Mary Arleta Plumley, 50, of 209 East Second Ave., Langeloth, and Michael A. Cain, 50, of Mingo Junction, Ohio, were taken into custody after Plumley allegedly stabbed Charles Cole, 52, and Cain head-butted him during separate confrontations at an East Second home. Plumley and Cain are identified by police in court documents as brother and sister. Cole, who also lives at 209 East Second, is reportedly Plumley’s boyfriend, said Chief Bernie LaRue.

Police were called just after 8 p.m. for a report of a man stabbed and bleeding on the back porch of a neighbor’s home at 206 E. Second. Cole was found on his right side with blood on the front of his sweatshirt. Cole, whom police said appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, told an officer Plumley stabbed him with a knife after an argument turned physical.

Police went to Plumley’s home. She refused to answer the door, police said, but her brother finally came to the door. The officers saw blood on his shirt. Cain allegedly admitted to head-butting Cole earlier in the day. He was taken into custody.

Officers entered the home and tried to talk with Plumley, who also reportedly had blood on her shirt. She refused to speak to police without an attorney. She also was taken into custody. Police photographed the scene and took the knife believed to have been used into evidence.

While at the station, Plumley saw Cain sitting on a bench. She reportedly stated, “He didn’t do it. … It was all me.”

LaRue said the trio had been drinking most of the day. The chief said Cole suffered several puncture wounds. He was flown to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment of what LaRue believes are not life-threatening injuries.

Both were arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller. Plumley is charged with attempted voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment. She was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. Cain is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct. He was jailed on $10,000 bond. Both are scheduled for Oct. 12 preliminary hearings before District Judge Gary Havelka.
