CENTER – A Beaver County man was injured in an ATV crash in Center Township Monday morning.

Center Township Fire Chief Charlie Jones said David Lyons, 59, of Chestnut Street, Monaca, was flown by helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., following the 10:30 a.m. crash that happened in the woods off Hopewell Ridge Road.

“He was by himself and thank goodness he was conscious because there was no one there to show us where he was,” Jones said.

He said Lyons must have made the call to 911 and gave the dispatcher direction on where to find him.

“We just started walking the wood line and he heard us calling out and then we heard him calling out to us,” Jones said.

Jones said Lyons suffered “serious but not life-threatening” injuries to his chest and back. Jones said Lyons had been marking a hunting spot for hunting season, when he tried to drive up a steep embankment.

“The bank was so steep that the vehicle started sliding backwards,” Jones said. “It rolled over backwards with him on it.”

Jones said Southwest EMS and Morris Township Fire Department assisted.
