County sells beacon property for $6.5K

Eyes have been focused for the past several months on Washington County’s $26.9 million sale of its health center and approximately 19 acres in Arden, Chartiers Township, but Thursday, the commissioners approved a much smaller transaction, the sale of a parcel on Meyers Road, South Strabane Township, for its appraised price of $6,500.
The land, which measures nearly seven-tenths of an acre, was once used as a site for an aviation beacon, but the county is no longer using that navigation system, said Scott Fergus, Washington County director of administration. It is being purchased by an adjacent owner of agricultural land, identified on the county’s database as Scott D. Kelley of Washington.
