Former Carmichaels borough manager accused of stealing $75k waives charges to court

CARMICHAELS – A former Carmichaels borough secretary accused of stealing nearly $75,000 from the borough over four years waived her right to a preliminary hearing Monday.
Brandi Lea Wydo-Streit, 43, 207 N. Vine St., Carmichaels, allegedly forged 89 paychecks for herself totaling $74,965 between 2012 and 2016, prompting the municipality’s bank account to be frozen last year, according to court documents.
Before her last day working as the borough manager Sept. 21, 2016, Wydo-Streit allegedly admitted to wrong-doing to the borough’s two part-time police officers, several council members, the borough solicitor and other employees, state police said.
An audit showed Wydo-Streit stole $64,705 from payroll and another $10,260 from the general fund, police said.
State police charged her June 28 with 89 counts each of forgery and theft by unlawful taking. She waived all charges and will face trial in the Greene County Court.
Wydo-Streit’s attorney, David Pollock, declined to comment on the charges Monday following the preliminary hearing before District Judge Lee Watson. Wydo-Streit is free on $7,496 bond.
