Canonsburg man arrested on assault, threats charges
A Canonsburg man was arrested early Wednesday by borough police after he allegedly pointed a shotgun at his girlfriend’s daughter and her boyfriend during a confrontation at his home.
Thomas Stanko, 52, of 661 Woodland Road, is charged with two counts each of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, simple assault and reckless endangerment.
Borough police, assisted by North Strabane and state police, responded to the home. When borough Officer Louis Bailey arrived, he saw a man and woman, later identified as the alleged victims, Shelby Jones, 22, and Chad Rausch, 25, standing outside. She told Bailey Stanko was still in the house with the gun. Police told them to go across the street with North Strabane police.
The front door was partially open. Bailey ordered Stanko to come out with his hands up. Stanko’s girlfriend, Addie Jones, told Bailey Stanko was no longer armed. He came out of the home a few minutes later. Addie Jones told police they could find the gun in the living room.
Police found the gun propped against the couch and also found four shotgun shells. Police also recovered more guns in a gun safe and in another room.
Addie Jones told police earlier that night, Stanko said, “Those two better not wake me up tonight.” She heard her daughter and boyfriend making noise in Shelby Jones’ bedroom. Stanko became angry, jumped out of bed, took a gun from the safe and left the room. She could hear him yelling at the two.
Addie Jones told police she stepped between Stanko and the other two, but he pushed her out of the way.
Rausch and Shelby Jones told police they were getting ready for bed when Stanko came into the bedroom and pointed a gun. They fled from the house and called 911.
Stanko was arraigned before District Judge Ethan Ward and placed in Washington County jail on $100,000 bond. He faces an Oct. 24 preliminary hearing before District Judge David Mark.
