A Claysville man was injured Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 70 near the welcome center between the West Alexander and Claysville exits.

Police said the SUV driven by Don M. Wilkerson, 76, collided with the rear of a tractor-trailer driven by James E. Stacey, 67, of Morning View, Ky., about 4:14 p.m. as traffic in the right lane slowed for road construction ahead.

Police suspect Wilkerson, who was using a seat belt, suffered serious injuries. Stacey was not injured.

According to Washington County 911, Wilkerson was transported to a hospital by emergency helicopter. No details on his condition were available Friday night.
