Two men charged with assault after fight in Waynesburg
WAYNESBURG – Two Waynesburg men are facing charges after allegedly getting into a fight with a man Monday afternoon.
James Woodrow Hayes, 42, of 905 S. Sherman Ave. and Jeffrey Emil Bechen, 28, of 174 W. Elm St., both face one charge each of felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault and a summary disorderly conduct charge.
According to a criminal complaint filed Monday by Waynesburg police, the assault occurred just before 5 p.m. on Church Street at Cherry Alley.
Police said the victim walked to the police station on High Street to report the fight. He had a cut above his left eye and blood was running down his face.
The victim, Timothy Burghy, and witness Kimberly Smith told police Bechen and Hayes drove up in a car, got out and ran after Burghy. When they caught him, Hayes allegedly threw Burghy on the ground. Burghy hit his head on the curb and both men began kicking him in the chest.
Smith told police Burghy tried to get up at least three times, but the two men held him down and continued to punch and kick him.
Both suspects are being held in Greene County jail on a $3,500 bond and are scheduled to appear before District Judge Jesse Cramer for their preliminary hearings at 9:10 a.m. Oct. 31.
