A Brentwood man on state parole in connection with a 2003 murder in Pittsburgh is in Washington County jail without bond after he allegedly violated a protection-from-abuse order obtained earlier this month by his estranged wife.

Ryan Quaill, 41, was arrested Thursday on a warrant obtained by Peters Township police accusing him of violating the order obtained by his estranged wife Oct. 12 from Washington County President Judge Katherine B. Emery.

The order prohibits Quaill from having any contact with his estranged wife. She showed police two text messages reportedly sent by Quaill on Wednesday. Police, in court documents, said the texts were lengthy and appeared to be an attempt to persuade his estranged wife to discontinue the PFA order.

Police indicated on a night duty intake form that accompanied the criminal complaint that Quaill was on state parole for murder and had cut off his electronic monitoring device.

Quaill was convicted in June 2004 in Allegheny County Court of third-degree murder in the drug-related shooting death of a St. Clair Village woman the previous August in the Hill District section of Pittsburgh. Quaill shot the woman once in the head. He was sentenced to 8 to 15 years in prison.

District Judge Jay Weller, who arraigned Quaill Thursday night, denied him bond. Quaill is scheduled for a Nov. 7 contempt hearing before Emery.
