BENTLEYVILLE
Woman charged: Linda Lee Ambrose, 59, of 123 Meadow Drive, Bentleyville, is charged by borough police with passing 11 bad checks from her bank account, some of which were cashed by a relative, at a Giant Eagle, 155 Wilson Road, between Aug. 30 and Sept. 9, court records show. The loss to the store amounted to $912. Ambrose is free on $5,000 unsecured bond set Tuesday by District Judge Curtis Thompson.
CANONSBURG
Car damaged: Mary Lou Caton of East College Street told Canonsburg police Thursday that her car was scratched and had an unknown substance poured on it.
CECIL
Driver injured: Tammy L. Cottrell, 43, of Cambridge, Ohio, was injured about 5 p.m. Wednesday in a three-vehicle, chain-reaction crash on Interstate 79 northbound near the Southpointe exit in Cecil Township. State police said she struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Brian D. Fritsch, 24, of Pittsburgh, pushing it into a vehicle driven by Zachary Meuschke, 25, of Gibsonia. Cottrell was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment of hand, chest and knee injuries.
MT. PLEASANT
Theft charges: Charles V. Hammonds, 69, of Clairton, was charged Thursday by Mt. Pleasant police with theft, theft by deception, receiving stolen property and retail theft for an alleged quick-change scam Oct. 10 at the Hickory BP, 221 Main St. The charges were sent by summons from the office of District Judge Traci McDonald.
Charged in crash: Matthew B. Parker, 38, of Hanoverton, Ohio, was charged this week by Mt. Pleasant police with driving under the influence of alcohol, aggravated assault by vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and several traffic violations stemming from a two-vehicle, head-on crash Sept. 16 at Main Street and Burgettstown Road. The other driver and his son were injured and hospitalized, police said. Parker reportedly refused to submit to a blood-alcohol test. Charges were sent by summons from the office of District Judge Traci McDonald.
Theft charge: Lisa Kay Widener, 47, of 21 Cass Lane, Westland, was charged this week by Mt. Pleasant police with retail theft after she allegedly stole items from Dollar General, 176 Main St., on Oct. 15. The charge was sent by summons from the office of District Judge Traci McDonald.
NORTH STRABANE
One injured: Paul Peyatt, 23, of Winfield Street, Canonsburg, was injured when his car was hit from behind about 6:20 a.m. Thursday by a vehicle driven by Donna Jackowski, 49, of Thomas Avenue, Monongahela, while he was stopped at a stop sign on Houston-Hill Church Road at South Central Avenue, North Strabane police said. Jackowski was taken to Canonsburg Hospital, where blood was drawn to determine if she was under the influence of a controlled substance. Police said she told them she had taken a prescribed narcotic. Peyatt was taken to a hospital for treatment.
WASHINGTON
Escape, DUI charges: Joshua Delfine Roberts, 34, of Washington, was arraigned Wednesday by video from SCI-Somerset before District Judge Robert Redlinger on charges of escape, flight to avoid apprehension, possession of paraphernalia, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and traffic violations filed by state police after a July 2 traffic stop in the 100 block of Maple Avenue. Roberts reportedly fled on foot but was soon taken into custody. Police said blood tests showed he had cocaine, heroin and marijuana in his system. Redlinger set bond at $10,000. Roberts was returned to Washington County Friday and placed in the county jail.
Drug, resisting charges: Jalene Jeremy Nichols, 22, of 910 Fayette St., Washington, was charged Wednesday by Washington police at the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger with possession and possession with intent to deliver heroin, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest stemming from an Aug. 23 incident in Jollick Manor. An officer was on foot patrol when he spotted Nichols, whom he recognized from a previous suspected drug transaction. The officer, who did not know Nichols’ name, asked the 22-year-old for his name. Nichols allegedly ran, throwing a bookbag over a secured area at Pennsylvania American Water property at Jefferson Avenue and West Maiden Street. He was taken into custody. Inside the bag, police said they found a brick of suspected heroin containing 44 stamp bags, two cellphones and $430. Nichols remains in Washington County Jail on a probation violation and will be arraigned on the new charges later.
Two face charges: Chelsea Tinker, 27, of Willow Street, Canonsburg, and Steven Moses, 30, of Melvin Avenue, Washington, face charges after Washington police said they spotted Moses stumbling on the street at the intersection of Donnan and Tyler avenues Thursday. He will be charged with public drunkenness. Tinker, who will be charged with possession of paraphernalia for allegedly possessing syringes and other items, was placed in Washington County Jail on a bench warrant.
