MONONGAHELA – A Monongahela man who, along with his dog, was shot in his home Saturday is expected to survive his injuries, state police said Tuesday.

Charles Sleith, 50, of 703 Yohe St., was taken to UPMC-Mercy hospital in critical condition after he and his dog, Felonie, were attacked, his family members said on social media.

The dog has since undergone extensive surgery for a gunshot wound to its neck, and is also expected to survive, according to Sleith’s daughter, Shannon, who has been using a crowdsourcing website to raise money for the animal.

Monongahela firefighters discovered the wounded man in a bedroom about 1:30 p.m. Saturday after they extinguished a small fire in boxes in the basement.

Monongahela police said Tuesday the investigation was being led by state police, and they had no new information on the case.
