Smith man, woman jailed for allegedly assaulting children
A man and woman from Smith Township were arrested late Monday and then charged after police alleged they assaulted three children.
Frances J. Wagner, 38, of 72 Dinsmore Ave., is charged with aggravated assault, child endangerment, witness intimidation, simple assault, reckless endangerment, harassment and disorderly conduct.
Jason Wagner, 33, who lives at the same address, is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and harassment.
Smith Township police filed both sets of charges Tuesday.
The Wagners’ relationship wasn’t specified in court papers.
The Wagners picked up Frances Wagners’ teenage daughters from a home on Francis Mine Road, where Frances Wagner had been arrested Monday afternoon on charges she struck her father, court records show.
Police said Frances Wagner attacked her two daughters at her father’s home, and witnesses told police Jason Wagner punched another child at the residence.
When the family returned to Dinsmore Avenue, Frances Wagner allegedly hit one of her daughters with the back of her hand.
Frances Wagner’s children also allegedly told the arresting officer “they grew up with (Children and Youth Services) in their life but nothing has ever been done because F. Wagner forced them to lie to caseworkers when questioned.”
District Judge James Ellis set bond at $25,000 for Frances Wagner, who also faces simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment charges from the earlier incident and was released on her own recognizance in that case, and $20,000 for Jason Wagner. Court papers don’t list attorneys for either defendant.
