Washington woman accused of burning woman’s eye with cigarette

A Washington woman was arrested Wednesday night by Washington police on charges including aggravated assault after she allegedly burned a woman’s left eye with a cigarette during a confrontation at an East Hallam Avenue home.
Yolanda Rose Sanders, 25, of 473 E. Hallam, is accused of sticking the cigarette in the eye of 50-year-old Raieleesa Ptomey, causing burns to her eye and eyelid.
Ptomey told police she was called to the home at 473 E. Hallam about 9:30 p.m. by the homeowner, Bertram Mitchell, who told her that Sanders stole his cellphone and was lurking around the house. Ptomey said she saw Sanders in the backyard.
Ptomey said she allowed Sanders to enter the home so she could return Mitchell’s cellphone. Sanders allegedly entered the front door and immediately burned Ptomey. Mitchell intervened, and Ptomey called 911 using a landline. Sanders then allegedly grabbed the telephone and tried to wrap the cord around Ptomey’s neck before Mitchell stopped her.
When Cpl. Benjamin Borkowski, Sgt. Carl Martin and Officer Willis McConnell arrived and tried to take her into custody, Sanders allegedly refused to comply with their orders and started punching and kicking. The officers had to pick her up and place her in the cruiser. She continued kicking inside the cruiser, police said.
Sanders, who also is charged with resisting arrest and simple assault, was arraigned before District Judge James Ellis and placed in Washington County Jail on $10,000 bond. She is scheduled for a Sept. 20 preliminary hearing before District Judge Robert Redlinger.
