Rostraver Township supervisors Wednesday adopted a fireworks ordinance to provide a set of consistent regulations for groups seeking permits.

“We have had several requests from different organizations to perform public firework displays. We felt we needed something to have all of our checks and balances in place,” explained Supervisor Gary Beck.

The ordinance follows all the state and federal laws concerning fireworks. The township ordinance requires notification 45 days in advance of a proposed public fireworks display. An application and permit is required, which must include the address of the proposed display and the name and address of the person conducting the display.

If a public display is canceled due to weather, the township must be notified within 72 hours for the display to receive a permit continuation. Guidelines for the display, persons conducting the displays and designated areas to ensure health, safety and welfare of property and residents will follow the state and federal laws.

Supervisors also authorized the appointment of Boenning & Scattergood as bond underwriters to provide advice regarding the existing bond issues of Rostraver Township and the Rostraver Township Sewage Authority. Solicitor Albert Gaudio said the underwriters will analyze the debt service and look at possible savings.

Supervisors also announced that the township’s trick or treat will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Oct. 28.
