Allegheny County police are looking for a man with ties to Canonsburg and Greene County who is wanted for robbing a Brentwood bank of more than $100,000 Wednesday afternoon.

Gary William White, 20, of the Baldwin area of Pittsburgh, is wanted on a warrant charging him with robbery, receiving stolen property and two counts of terroristic threats.

White is accused of robbing the PNC bank on Route 51. He allegedly entered the bank about 1 p.m., armed with a knife, and demanded money from the teller. White was able to get behind the teller’s counter and obtain access to the vault, stealing $111,000, police said.

Allegheny County Police Lt. Richard Mullen said White was last seen running into a wooded area in Canonsburg. Mullen said White’s parents live in Greene County.

Canonsburg police were notified late Wednesday Allegheny County detectives were watching a home on Park Avenue. They also wanted to speak to the 25-year-old man who lived at the home. They asked for Canonsburg’s help in going to the residence to talk with the man about White.

Two Canonsburg officers and the detectives went to the house and surrounded it while North Strabane Township police established a perimeter along the road and woods. No one was in the residence.

North Strabane police spotted a man, later identified as the resident, walking toward the house. He told police the house is owned by his mother, who changed the locks. She allowed police to check the house for White.

The 25-year-old told detectives he and White had gone to a bank in Canonsburg where they used the man’s debit card to withdraw $500. White took the debit card, the $500 and the 25-year-old’s cellphone. Detectives had the cellphone pinged, and it showed it was in a wooded area off Orchard Avenue. The area was searched, but White was not found, police said.

Last month, White waived a preliminary hearing on charges of robbery, theft, receiving stolen property, possessing instruments of a crime and simple assault filed by police in Robinson Township, Allegheny County, in connection with a July 15 incident. He is scheduled to be formally arraigned on those charges Oct. 24 in Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas.

White is 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighs 230 pounds and has brown hair, green eyes and a beard.

Mullen asked that anyone with information on White’s whereabouts call Allegheny County Police at 412-473-3000. If White is spotted, Mullen said to call 911 so local police can be alerted.
