A Coal Center man, already awaiting a preliminary hearing on a charge of simple assault, was arrested again Saturday by Monongahela police for allegedly strangling a woman in addition to a warrant obtained after he allegedly assaulted two officers and that same woman last month.

Jeremy Lee Carr, 34, of 23 Honor St., was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, strangulation, terroristic threats, unlawful restraint and simple assault. He also was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, public drunkenness, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, harassment and terroristic threats stemming from an Aug. 11 incident.

Police were called about 7 a.m. Saturday to Richardson Apartments for a report of a woman being assaulted, having her head beat off the ground. Police found the woman crying. She told police Carr grabbed her by the throat and continuously slammed her head off the ground. He then ran away.

Police went to the home of Carr’s mother on Bertram Street. He was on the porch, ran into the house and then out the back door. The California police K-9 unit arrived to search the area along with officers from Donora and Carroll Township. Carr was found hiding in the brush of a neighbor’s yard.

Carr reportedly told police the woman assaulted him. The victim was taken to Monongahela Valley Hospital for treatment. Her injuries were consistent with what she said had happened, police said. She also told police the assault occurred over a period of time and Carr refused to let her leave the residence.

In the Aug. 11 assault, Carr reportedly beat and dragged the woman on West Main Street. Police said she had fresh scrapes on her arms and legs. While Carr was in the station’s holding cell, he was seen taking off his shirt and using it as a noose. The noose was removed from the cell. He struggled with officers as they tried to place him in handcuffs, trying to hit one of them, police said. Carr allegedly threatened an officer before he was taken to Mon Valley Hospital for an evaluation.

Carr had been out of Washington County jail after posting $5,000 bond on charges filed by Monongahela police in a Aug. 5 incident. He was released the day after he was arraigned on the charge before District Judge David Mark.

Carr was placed in Washington County jail without bond. Kanalis denied bond because Carr was already on bond from the Aug. 5 case.
