Washington burglary suspect waives hearing

A Washington man accused in several burglaries, including a break-in that involved the theft of a car, waived a preliminary hearing on the charges filed against him by city police during a preliminary hearing Monday.
Ivan Edward Sadler, 52, is charged with burglary, theft and unauthorized use of a credit card for allegedly stealing a 2016 Kia Sportage and breaking into the vehicle owner’s Woodland Avenue home July 7, stealing items that included credit cards he used or tried to use at area businesses.
He later crashed that vehicle on Interstate 79 near the Carnegie exit in Collier Township. He then allegedly stole a pickup truck from a Good Samaritan who stopped to help him. Sadler dragged the owner of the truck, injuring him, as he fled, police said.
Sadler was taken into custody July 12 by state police after he reportedly was found with a stolen truck on Moore Road in West Finley. He faces a preliminary hearing in that case Monday before District Judge Ethan Ward on charges of receiving stolen property and false identification to police.
State police at the Pittsburgh station have not filed charges in connection with the incident on I-79.
Sadler also waived a hearing on charges of burglary, criminal trespass, theft and unlawful use of a credit card for allegedly entering the office of Washington-East Washington Joint Authority, 2 Wilson Ave., July 5 and stealing a purse. He used one of the cards in the purse to make a purchase at Lowe’s, police said.
Sadler also declined a preliminary hearing on a theft charge stemming from an incident in which he allegedly stole a purse containing a cellphone from an employee at Foodland, 875 Henderson Ave., July 6.
Sadler remains in Washington County jail. He is scheduled to be formally arraigned on the burglary charges Dec. 15.
