A Denbo mother was charged last week by Centerville police with two counts of endangering the welfare of children after her two daughters reportedly were found alone on a borough street.

Charges were filed against Julie Ann Marie Erickson, 25, of 1154 First St., at the office of District Judge Joshua Kanalis.

Police were called about 8:40 a.m. March 22 to Erickson’s home. Erickson allegedly told police her two daughters, ages 4 and 5, had been taken by her sister-in-law to her home, and she would not let the children return to Erickson’s house.

Erickson told police she had gone to the basement of her home about an hour earlier to do laundry. When she came back upstairs, her daughters were missing.

Police went to the home of the sister-in-law and spoke with her. She reportedly told police she discovered her nieces had left their home and came to her house about 7:50 a.m. Police said she also told them it is an ongoing issue with the two small girls walking out of their home and wandering through the neighborhood unsupervised.

There reportedly had been an incident about a month earlier in which the sister-in-law said the girls, who were unsupervised on the road, nearly got hit by a utility truck. The sister-in-law also took the girls after that incident. Police and Washington County Children and Youth Services were contacted.

After confirming the girls were unharmed during the most recent incident, police again called CYS and said a caseworker is investigating. It is not clear whether Erickson still has custody of her daughters.

Erickson is scheduled for a May 7 preliminary hearing before Kanalis.
