WAYNESBURG – A Cumberland Township woman charged with simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child was found not guilty Thursday by a Greene County Court jury.

Angela Marie Bowser, 27, of 315 Parkview Knoll, was charged following a Nov. 9 incident in which she allegedly assaulted a neighbor who reportedly had taken care of Bowser’s 10-year-old daughter for a night when Bowser could not be found.

The neighbor, Kathryn Neel, told Cumberland Township police the girl had been at her apartment on Nov. 8. Neel said she went to take the child home that evening but no one could be contacted at Bowser’s apartment.

Neal said she allowed the girl to stay at her apartment that night and then saw her off to school the next morning. After school, Neel said, the girl returned to her apartment and told her she didn’t want to go home because there frequently was nothing to eat there.

Neel said she later was able to make contact with Bowser and returned the child about 7:45 p.m. Bowser later came to her apartment and asked her “what her problem is,” Neel said.

Neel said Bowser grabbed her by the hair, threw her into a bush and struck her in the head. The two women ended up wrestling on the ground. Neel then called 911.

Police said they went to Bowser’s apartment but no one answered the door. They then called children and youth services.

The trial was before Greene County Judge Lou Dayich. Following the jury verdict, Dayich also found Bowser not guilty of a summary charge of harassment.
