State grant to help build new sports court, other park amenities in Cross Creek
A court for multiple sports is part of Cross Creek Township’s plans for a state grant that’s helping fuel almost $300,000 in work at Cedar Grove Park.
Cross Creek plans to use the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant to help fund a new phase of construction on its six-acre township park on Ferguson Street.
The $149,300 – which comes with a requirement that the township provide an equal amount in matching funds and in-kind contributions – will go toward accessibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act, improved walkways, an overflow parking area and installation of a rubberized playground surface.
Officials also expect to use some of the funds to build a multipurpose sports court suitable for dek hockey, basketball and tennis as part of the last phase of the three-part project.
“We’re actually working on (the design) right now,” township manager Rachel Warner Blosser said. She added that officials hope to put the project out for bid in the fall.
The first part of the park development consisted of a playground and opened in 2008. In 2016, work ended on a rental pavilion, restrooms and kitchen.
