Monday is the deadline to register to vote in the May primary election.

Acting Secretary of State Robert Torres encouraged prospective voters and those who are updating their information to use the online registration process, which has been used by more than 1 million Pennsylvanians.

Those who choose may go to the Department of State website www.dos.pa.gov and click on “Online Voter Registration” or visit votesPA.com.

The Washington County elections office in the Courthouse Square office building will open at 9 a.m. and remain open an extra half-hour, until 5 p.m. that day, to collect voter registration documents. Any voter registration forms that are mailed to the office at 100 W. Beau St., Suite 206, Washington, PA 15301, must be postmarked by April 16.

The Greene County elections office will follow its regular schedule, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Its mailing address is Greene County Office Building, First Floor, 93 E. High St., Waynesburg, PA 15370.

On May 15, primary voters who are registered as Republican or Democrat will choose the two parties’ nominees for U.S. senator, governor, lieutenant governor, representatives in Congress, half of state senators, all representatives in the General Assembly and members of the state and county party committees.

In addition, all registered voters who reside in the 48th legislative districts will be able to vote in the special elections to fill a vacancy created when State Rep. Brandon Neuman resigned before being sworn in as a Washington County judge.

Updating an existing registration includes a change of name, address or party affiliation.
