A Canonsburg mother is being charged with helping her daughter assault a student outside Washington High School last week, police said. The girl’s brother also is charged for his alleged role in preventing a teacher from stopping the fight.

Jonice Cushenberry, 39, is being charged with criminal conspiracy, trespassing on school grounds, disorderly conduct and endangering the welfare of children, after she allegedly drove her 13-year-old daughter, who is a student in the Canon-McMillian School District, to Washington High School April 25, where she got into a fight with a female student who exited the building at dismissal.

While Cushenberry’s daughter was fighting with the girl, the student’s grandmother drove up to the school. According to police, Cushenberry got out of her car and prevented the grandmother from stopping the fight.

Police said when a teacher tried to stop it, Cushenberry’s son, Ocean Bey, 22, also of Canonsburg, told the teacher not to touch his sister as she was on top of the student, punching her repeatedly.

The assault eventually stopped, and Cushenberry left the property with her son and daughter.

Bey is being charged with criminal conspiracy, trespassing on school grounds and disorderly conduct. Washington police did not indicate if the 13-year-old girl was being charged in juvenile court.

Charges were sent by summons from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.
