Vehicle crashes into home following domestic disturbance
A California man is facing several charges after allegedly driving his pickup truck into a neighbor’s porch Sunday evening following a dispute with his wife.
James George Huba, 40, of 274 Knob Road, allegedly was intoxicated when the crash occurred at a home just down the road from his.
California Borough police were responding at 7:20 p.m. to reports of a domestic dispute at Huba’s home when they were notified about the crash into a house on the same road.
Huba had allegedly pushed his wife multiple times before she called 911. He then got into his truck and drove away, ran off the road and into the front porch at 153 Knob Road, nearly striking homeowner John Staley, the complaint states.
Staley told police because he was in the direct path of the truck, his foot was struck with cinder blocks when it hit the porch. Police said Staley refused medical treatment, as did Huba, who sustained multiple scrapes in the crash.
A witness told police after the crash, Huba immediately fled into the woods. California University, Centerville and Roscoe-Elco-Stockdale-Allenport police assisted in searching for Huba, who was found a quarter-mile into the woods.
Huba allegedly told police he had three mixed drinks before getting behind the wheel, the criminal complaint said. Huba’s blood-alcohol content was 0.141 percent, higher than the 0.08 percent threshold at which intoxication is presumed, the complaint said.
Huba was charged with flight to avoid apprehension, driving under the influence, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident and two counts each of simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment. He was also charged with reckless driving.
He was arraigned Monday morning by District Judge Larry Hopkins and released after posting $25,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Aug. 13 before District Judge Joshua Kanalis.
