ROSTRAVER – Police from several departments gathered Wednesday in Rostraver Township to remind motorists about an ongoing crackdown on aggressive driving.
Rostraver police hosted the event that drew state troopers and officers from nearby departments, and took them to Route 51 for a traffic detail.
“Use common sense,” Rostraver police Lt. John Christner said.
“Buckle up. Avoid tailgating and running red lights,” Christner said. “These tips will save you a ticket.”
The Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Program was launched in early July and runs through Aug. 26, said Jay Ofsanik, a spokesman for the state Department of Transportation.
It involves more than 200 municipal police departments and state police.
He said there have been 842 police contacts with motorists and 921 citations issued since the wave began July 9.
Trooper Robert Broadwater said state police are using the program to emphasize the state’s “Steer Clear” law that requires motorists to move to the left and slow down when they approach cruisers with flashing lights stopped on the right berm.
“This is a problem. Try to avoid us,” Broadwater said.
