Two hospitalized after trailer fire in Chartiers Township
Two people were taken to hospitals after a fire broke out early Friday afternoon at a mobile home in Chartiers Township.
Chartiers Township Assistant Fire Chief Gary Friend said EMS crews were the first to respond to the scene, at 335 ½ Ewing St. They found a woman on the ground outside the trailer. Upon arrival, two firefighters from South Strabane Township and one from Chartiers were able to rescue the man from inside, Friend said. They performed CPR on him before he was taken by ambulance to Canonsburg Hospital. The woman was flown by helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital. Their names were not immediately known.
Friend said that when he arrived at the fire scene about 1:30 p.m., the front half of the trailer was “fully involved.” He said that while they had enough manpower and water to put out the fire, “trailers are difficult” because they burn so quickly.
Friend said they still don’t know the cause of the fire, but a state police fire marshal is investigating. Houston firefighters and Chartiers police also assisted at the scene.
