ELRAMA – A Union Township woman is accused of assaulting a police officer who tried to help her get into a residence to sober up Saturday night.

Monongahela police accused Cathy Ann Heckman, 55, of Elrama, of kicking police officer David Marghella twice in the left leg after he was called to 4124 Finleyville-Elrama Road about 10 p.m., court records show.

The officer also accused Heckman of threatening to kill him several times after he took her into custody, he stated in the affidavit.

Heckman was being helped by volunteer firefighters, who decided to take her home after her boyfriend left her at a local bar. The volunteers called for police after finding out Heckman did not have a key to enter the residence on Finleyville-Elrama Road.

Police said Heckman had difficulty standing and slurred speech at the time. The address on her driver’s license didn’t match the address where they found her, the affidavit indicates.

She became angry, court records allege, when the officer offered to take her to a jail cell at the police station.

Police also accuse Heckman of banging her head against a partition in the police cruiser until she passed out, resulting in an ambulance being summoned to the police station.

She eventually regained consciousness and was taken to Mon Valley Hospital.

She is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, making terroristic threats, resisting arrest, harassment and disorderly conduct.

She is free on $25,000 bond set by District Judge Larry Hopkins.
