Two rescued from flooded car in city
City firefighters rescued two people from a flooded car during Friday evening’s heavy rains.
According to firefighters, the driver became stuck while attempting to drive through a flooded West Beau Street near the City Mission’s Hidden Treasures store about 5:30 p.m.
Capt. Nick Blumer said firefighters placed the driver and a passenger, who both had casts and were using crutches, in Stokes baskets and carried them to safety.
Blumer said the water was about two feet deep.
No one was injured.
In another flood-related incident, Cindy Andrews and her daughter, Misty Hewitt, became caught in floodwater on West Chestnut Street while they were driving. North Franklin firefighters responded to the scene.
The National Weather Service issued a flash flood advisory in Washington County until 8 p.m. Between 1½ to 2½ inches of rain was expected to fall in parts of the county.
“We have these heavy storms that move through quickly and we get these flash floods now, and the low areas just really fill up fast,” said Blumer.
Flooded roads were reported in other parts of the county, including on Cross Creek Road near Burgettstown.
