A 16-year-old boy is in a juvenile detention facility after he allegedly threatened a neighbor Thursday during a confrontation at his Lincoln Terrace home.

Washington police took the boy into custody on a charge of terroristic threats after he allegedly threatened to kill a neighbor.

Police were called after Amber Patterson, also of Lincoln Terrace, had gone to the home at 305 Lincoln Terrace for a third time looking for her 14-year-old daughter. The girl was last seen about 1 p.m. Wednesday when she left to go to the Family Dollar store on Highland Avenue. Patterson told police when she reported the girl missing, she had checked for her at the home of her boyfriend.

The boy’s mother allowed Patterson to enter the home. Patterson saw her daughter coming down the stairs from an upstairs bedroom followed by the 16-year-old boy.

They got into an argument and he reportedly threatened to kill the girl’s stepfather if he laid his hands on her, police said. The teen was holding what appeared to be a .22-caliber handgun in his right hand, which was against the side of his body.

The boy left the house before police arrived but was taken into custody nearby at Highland Avenue and North Lincoln Street. Police were given permission to search the home for the gun. Another woman who lived in the area had reported a .22-caliber handgun stolen July 31. Police were on their way to her home when she reported finding the gun in a bathroom closet. Police are trying to determine if the teen had any connection with the theft of the gun.

The boy was placed in Jefferson County (Ohio) Juvenile Detention Center.
