Attempt made to rob Washington woman at gunpoint
A Washington woman told city police early Friday two men tried to rob her at gunpoint as she walked along an alley off Third Street.
The 20-year-old woman told police she was walking in the alley behind a professional building in the 400 block of Jefferson Avenue, holding her 18-month-old son on her hip, when the two men ran up behind her. One of the men pressed a gun to her back and demanded money. He also pointed the gun at her son, she said.
Police said she told the robbers she only had the diaper bag and no money or cellphone. When she heard a neighbor open a door, she was able to run away.
As she ran, she looked back. She told police both men were black, wore black clothing and had something that was black and white on their faces. She also described them as being tall.
She ran to her West Chestnut Street apartment and called police. She was not injured. Police canvassed the area, but were not able to find the suspects.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call city police at 724-223-4226.
