WAYNESBURG – Waynesburg Borough plans to resurface sections of eight streets this year as part of the borough’s annual paving program.

Council voted Monday to award a contract to Morgan Excavation, which submitted an apparent low bid of $199,657 for the work. Another bid from El Grande Industries was for $203,454. The contract award was contingent on approval of the bid by the borough solicitor and state Department of Transportation.

This year, the borough will pave East Street, from High Street to Braden Street; Blackberry Street, from Cherry Alley to Greene Street; Washington Street, from Greene Street to Franklin Street; West Street, from First Avenue to Franklin Street, Ross Street from Fifth Avenue to Fourth Avenue; Spring Alley, from Cherry Alley to Greene Street; Bridge Street, from Braden Street to College Street; and Findley Alley, from High Street to Greene Street.

The contract also calls for the company to complete patching work on parts of Franklin Street and Hessel Street.

Borough manager Mike Simms said the work will probably be completed in September or October. The annual paving program is funded with liquid fuels money.
