Gasoline prices in Western Pennsylvania remained about the same this week, dropping a mere two-tenths of a cent. The average price for a gallon of unleaded self-serve is $3.096, according to a report Monday from AAA East Central. That figure is 50.7 cents higher than it was a year ago, at $2.589.

Washington’s price likewise dropped a mere 0.2 cents to $3.080. That is about six cents higher than the state average of $3.03. The average price nationally is $2.84, the same as last week.

But with the Labor Day weekend approaching, the cost of gasoline could go up slightly.

Prices are about the same as they were last week throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast region. Gasoline inventories dropped by 57,000 barrels, but stayed at about the 63.2 million-barrel level, according to the Energy Information Administration.

Washington’s price of $3.080 is the ninth lowest among 22 Western Pennsylvania cities and towns listed by AAA. DuBois ($2.994) is the only area under $3 a gallon. Altoona ($3.034) and Uniontown ($3.056) had the second- and third-lowest prices. Jeannette had the highest price ($3.212).
